Ústí nad Labem Celebrates MLK Jr. Day

The Czech Erasmus+ Team learned about an important American hero during this week's meeting.
The group watched a video about the life of the famous civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The United States honors Dr. King's life and struggle for equality every year on the third Monday in January. The club also discussed various methods of non-violent resistance to oppression, including boycotts, peaceful protests, public demonstrations and strikes. Students were asked how they can apply these same principles of non-violence in their own day-to-day encounters.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s teachings have a lot in common with those of Czech president Vaclav Havel. The ideas and values that these men bravely fought for, which led to imprisonment and threats of violence for both, are central to the story of human rights. Both of these inspiring leaders knew how to stand up for their rights!
